However, with unregulated loan apps, you may fall victim to predatory practices of unregulated digital lenders, particularly their high interest rates, unethical debt collection practices, and the abuse of personal information.

List of 32 Approved Loan Apps in Kenya by the Central Bank of Kenya

In January 2023, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) announced the licensing of 22 Digital Credit providers in Kenya. In March 2023, it announced the licensing of an additional ten (10) Digital Credit Providers (DCPs) bringing the number of licensed DCPs to Thirty-Two (32).

It is worth noting that the above list is not final, as more and more digital lending apps submit their applications to CBK for review and licensing.

CBK revealed that it has received 401 applications since March 2022 and is working closely with the applicants in reviewing their applications. Additionally, CBK has engaged other regulators and agencies pertinent to the licensing process, including the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
