You can now channel your HELB Loan payments through the HELB system-designated payment options;
- USSD code *642#
- HELB Mobile App (Available on Google Play Store)
- Loanee Portal to the e-Citizen gateway.
Here are three ways on how to pay HELB loan via MPesa using the the designated HELB channels.
1. USSD Code
- Dial *642# on your phone
- Log in or Register
- Select the Loan Repayment option, then select Repay Loan option
- Select MPesa
- Select Pay Specific Amount
- Enter the Amount you wish to pay and confirm.
- You will receive a Mpesa pop-up message requesting you to enter your Mpesa PIN.
- Enter your M-Pesa pin and send.
You will receive SMS notifications from E-citizen and HELB that the payment has been processed successfully.
How to Pay HELB Loan via MPesa PayBill Number 222222
Alternatively, you can use the HELB portal or the USSD code *642# to generate a payment reference with the amount you wish to pay. You will receive a text message from e-Citizen with a set of instructions to follow to pay your HELB loan using the Government Paybill number 222222. Follow these steps;
- Go to the MPESA menu on your phone
- Select Paybill option
- Enter Business Number 222222
- Enter the generated Payment Reference as the account number, for example, QMAJEKB.
- Enter the invoice amount to pay as per the payment reference.
- Enter your MPESA PIN and Send
You will receive a confirmation SMS from MPESA and HELB that your payment has been received.

2. HELB Mobile App
How to Pay HELB loan via MPesa X-Press. This payment option allows you to initiate the HELB loan repayment via the Mobile app. After initiating the process, you receive an MPesa pop-up message on your phone, prompting you to enter your MPesa PIN.
- Download the HELB Mobile App from the Google Play store.
- Login if you have an account or register to create an account
- Select the pay loan option.
- Confirm Phone number and amount to pay
- Key in your MPesa pin when you receive an MPesa pop-up message on your phone.
Once the payment is processed, you will receive SMS notifications from E-citizen and HELB.
3. Loanee HELB Self-Serve Portal
- Log on to the HEF Portal
- On the portal, select the self-serve option on the HELB menu.
- Select Loan Repayment
- Select Make Payment
- Fill in the amount to pay and click “Pay.”
- You will receive a notification to confirm.
- Once confirmed, the payment options will be displayed.
- Select M-Pesa as your preferred payment option. You will be required to select “send STK.”
- You will receive an MPesa pop-up notification requesting you to enter your MPesa PIN.
- Once the payment has been made, click Complete.
You will receive notifications from Mpesa and E-citizen immediately acknowledging the payment and another notification from HELB once the payment has been allocated to the statement.
