What’s MTN Uganda?

How to Send Money from M-PESA to MTN Uganda
Method 1: Using M-PESA Global USSD Code *840#
This is the easiest way to send money abroad in Kenya. M-PESA Global enables M-PESA registered customers to send and receive money around the globe. You can send money from M-PESA to East African countries – Rwanda, Tanzania & Uganda. Additionally, you can send money to all Western Union agents globally except sanctioned countries such as North Korea and Syria.
How to Opt-In M-PESA Global
Step1: Dial the USSD Code *840# on your M-Pesa line
Step 2: Enter your physical address e.g, Safaricom House, Waiyaki Way
Step 3: Then accept the terms and conditions for M-PESA Global
Step 4: After a few seconds, you will receive an M-PESA push notification. Enter M-PESA pin and send.
You will receive a message that you’ve successfully opted into M-PESA Global services. Kindly note that the M-PESA Global service is different from the M-PESA GlobaPay Virtual card service.
Steps on How to Send Money From M-Pesa to MTN Uganda:
Step 1: Dial the USSD Code *840# on your M-Pesa line
Step 2: Select Send Money Abroad (Option 1)
Step 3: Then choose “Send to Mobile Number” (option 1)
Step 4: Next, select the Country to Send Money. In this case, select Uganda.
Step 5: Enter the recipient’s Mobile Number in an international format e.g, 2567XXXXXXXX
Step 6: Key in the amount you want to send. The amount should be between KES 101 and KES 150,000.
Step 7: Choose your source of funds e.g, Salary, business, Savings, and Others
Step 8: Then select the purpose of the funds
Step 9: Confirm the details of the recipient and send
Step 10: In the STK Push notification, enter your M-PESA pin and Send.
Method 2: Using the MySafaricom App
The MySafaricom app is available for download to both iOS and Android users. Download and install, then follow the following steps:
How to send money from M-PESA to MTN Uganda using the mySafaricom app:
Step 1: Open the MySafaricom app on your phone
Step 2: Tap on the M-Pesa icon at the bottom and then select the M-Pesa Global
Step 3: Then choose the “Send to Mobile” option
Step 4: Fill in the Country and recipient details. Select Uganda, then enter the MTN Uganda Number and the recipient details such as official name and address. Then tap Continue
Step 5: Enter the Amount, Select the Source of Funds, and the Purpose of the Funds. Then tap send and then confirm transaction details.
Step 6: After a few seconds, you will receive an M-Pesa STK push notification. Enter your M-PESA pin and press send.
The Minimum amount you can send per transaction from M-Pesa Kenya is KES 101, and the maximum amount is KES 150,000. If you enter any amount above KES 150,000, you will be prompted to enter an amount between KES 101 and KES 150,000.

Method 3: Send Money from M-PESA to MTN Uganda via SimbaPay
The third method that you can use to send money to MTN Uganda from Safaricom M-PESA is via SimbaPay. SimbaPay allows you to send money to Uganda via the M-PESA Paybill Number 261059. The money will be delivered instantly to the recipient’s MTN Uganda phone number.
Steps to send money to MTN Uganda via SimbaPay Paybill Number:
- Launch the M-PESA app or Sim Toolkit (STK)
- Go to Lipa na M-PESA, then select Paybill Option
- Enter the recipient’s phone as the account number e.g +256 700 123456 (No spaces)
- Enter the amount you want to send. Minimum: KES 1,000
- Enter your M-Pesa pin and send.
How Do I Transfer Money From Safaricom to Mtn Uganda?
1. Dial *840#
2. Follow the prompts to Opt In
3. Select Send Money Abroad (Option 1)
4. Choose “Send to Mobile Number” (option 1)
5. Select the Country to Send Money. In this case, select Uganda.
6. Enter the recipient’s Mobile Number in an international format e.g, 2567XXXXXXXX
7. Key in the amount you want to send and then enter M-PESA Pin.
M-PESA to MTN Uganda Charges
Sending money from M-PESA to MTN Uganda attracts zero charges or fees. You can send up to KES 150,000 and you will not be charged a penny. Safaricom will only make a markup (conversion fees) based on prevailing currency exchange rates. Thus the recipient will receive funds in their country’s currency.
